BIENNALE DE DAKAR - 2024
Pierres de sel, Isomorphe, part of the project ‘Érosion’, salt, porcelain, shown at Biennale de Dakar, Sénégal, 2024
The pieces presented are part of a research project on salt, a material historically linked to trade and the movement of people and goods. The porcelain sculptures are made from shapes eroded by the repeated action of animals' tongues on salt licks used in livestock farming. Through a process of isomorphism, these natural shapes are transposed into porcelain, a material historically associated with luxury and the global circulation of goods. The installation thus articulates the transformation of matter, the memory of uses and a reflection on the boundary between sculpture, object and design. In dialogue with earthen architecture, the works question the relationships between art, craftsmanship and mass production, offering forms that are both sculptural and potentially utilitarian.
